This is another mine I do not know the name of. I just named this mine after a nearby creek.
This mine is located right off the Million Dollar Highway near Silverton. It’s very easy to get to and there is even a nice parking area for easy access. The trail is only .2 mile long to the giant headframe and follows an old mining road.
The headframe is huge! There is a sign outside saying that this and other headframes, mills, and structures in the surrounding area are protected and patrolled by volunteers. Please be respectful and observe from afar and only take photos. If you go to the east side of the headframe you can get a good look at the mine shaft inside. It is gated but you can still see where all the ore was brought up.
There are a few other buildings nearby to see.
Personal Thoughts
After mine exploring in Silverton, I wasn't expecting to see such a large structure as this one on the way to Ouray. It was a great surprise and really fun to check out!
