I have been hiking Adams Canyon for as long as I can remember.  The trail to the large 40 ft waterfall way up the canyon is also a great hike, but if you are looking for something a little bit easier that won’t take 2-4 hours then you should hike to the lower waterfall.

The hike to Lower Adams Canyon begins at the same trailhead as the regular Adams Canyon hike.  You will hike through switchbacks at the beginning to gain some elevation and at about 1/3 of a mile into the hike the trail will continue straight or it cuts right.

Once you see the trail split, like in the picture below, take the right trail.

The trail is well worn and easy to hike on.  After about 900 ft the trail will take a left and you follow it for another 200 ft or so on some rocks until you hear the lower falls.  From here, the trail is kind of steep but just use the many rocks and tree roots and branches if you need help getting down.  I’ve seen young children on this hike and they seemed to love navigating this down section.  It really isn’t bad but it just adds another element of fun to your adventure.

The lower fall is about 15 ft high and the mist it creates feels great in the hot summer months.  There is a large pool that is ankle deep in most spots.  If you come here in early spring there will be tons of water flow.

Hike back up the same way you came and continue hiking above the lower falls if you want to explore a fun canyon section.

In this section, you may have to stoop and possibly even walk through the creek if the water is higher.   The trail can be very narrow at times but you just hike up the canyon as much as you want.

I hiked up until I found a steep trail to the south and then got on the Bonneville Shoreline Trail and hiked up to the creek bridge then got back on the regular Adams Canyon trail and hiked back down to my car.

Personal Thoughts

Whenever I don't feel like doing a long hike but want to see some neat things I usually hike on this trail. It's quick, easy, and has a waterfall and fun little canyon!
