There are other petroglyphs nearby. Take time to explore a little bit and enjoy this beautiful spot! During my visit, three trucks from Minnesota pulled up and it was fun to hear these visitors talk about how “cool” the owls were. I loved seeing the Owl Panel and I can imagine visiting here on future 9 Mile Canyon visits!
This panel is located on private property and is open to respectful visitors. There are signs telling you where to go to see the Owl Panel, but since this is on private property, I have hidden the GPS coordinates and Trail Map.
The parking is on the north side of 9 Mile Canyon Road. It’s large enough for a few vehicles, but I wouldn’t bring a trailer or RV here.
In my opinion, The Owl Panel is one of the best petroglyph panels in 9 Mile Canyon. It’s so clear and shows some very unique depictions of owls and other creatures. There are three owls in total. If this is your first time to 9 Mile Canyon and looking for some great petroglyphs, this is a MUST stop. Just keep in mind, that this the trail is on private property, but the property owners allow respectful visitors who want to protect the rock art. You can protect this site by: not touching the rock art, not carving your own name or symbols, do not take anything or cause any damage on the property. Just take lots of pictures and enjoy!
The hike is about 630 ft. to the panel. It’s very easy and just about everyone from all ages and skill levels could do this adventure. Just follow the signs and the worn trail. The panel is located on a large rock face that is facing towards the parking. The petroglyphs are located very close to the ground so watch your little ones and make sure they don’t touch the rock art too.
The owls are the most impressive on this panel – just look at how the original creators carved the wings! Owl petroglyphs are unique and not common. I have only seen a few other owl petroglyphs including this one in Moab.
