The Goosenecks Overlook is off the main Highway 24 about 1 mile.

This is a very short hike to a great overlook of some “goosenecks” of where Sulphur Creek makes some tight turns in its course.  This is also a very interesting place to view sections of sandstone and limestone in the rock across the canyon.

The trail to the overlook is easy and it took me less than six minutes to reach the trailend.  The overlook is right at the edge, but there are some guardrails.  Just be careful because it is a 800 ft fall down to the creek below.

The view is impressive as you see the small Sulphur Creek twisting and turning and realize that this small creek carved 800 ft below to make this canyon.  The creek eventually meets up with other creeks and then the Colorado River way east of here.

Personal Thoughts

This stop was kind of neat to see and something I normally wouldn't have stopped at, but I was glad I did.

Visited The Goosenecks overlook in March 2021. The creek below was frozen. The depth of the canyon was impressive as well as the tight turns of the creek. Definitely a sight not to be missed in Capitol Reef!
