In August, we had a rare chance to visit the Usibelli Coal Mine and view the mining operations! On this rainy day, we took a shuttle bus up to where the coal was being mined and witnessed the massive operation.
The mine isn’t an underground operation now, but instead it’s all strip and pit mining. A massive crane would lift huge loads of dirt and coal and dump them into piles to get ready to be transported for processing, burning, or markets.
