The Trail:

Mendenhall Glacier is a very cool place to visit if you are in Juneau. We were there in August so the salmon were running and there were bears everywhere. The bears would get right by you on the trails around the streams. It was really awesome to see them catching salmon and was one of the best parts of my trip to Alaska. The glacier is really cool to see. There is a large visitor center.

Outside the visitor center there are tons of hiking trails through the forest and around the lake at the base of the glacier. There is a very large waterfall called Nugget Falls that you can hike to as well.

In my video you can see the bears and wildlife in the area. The glacier and the lake itself is very beautiful and a lot of the trails are handicap accessible so anyone can come to see this beautiful setting!

The Return:

Depending on which trail you have walked most are out and back trails.

Personal Thoughts:

This is a great place that is right near town and you can spend anywhere from an hour to half a day here and not be bored at all. It was definitely one of the highlights of my trip to Alaska and I highly recommend it to anyone.

The Bottom Line

Difficulty is basically the length, duration and stress of the Trek. If the Trek is really long then it will receive a higher rating. If the Trek is short then it won't receive that high of a rating. However, difficulty rating also includes how tired we were at the end of the Trek.

Technicality is how strenuous the Trek is. If there is lots of bouldering or if there is bushwhacking involved then the rating will be higher. Technicality also includes if there are steep inclines or the need for ropes and other equipment.

Enjoyment is strictly how much fun we had doing the Trek. Regardless of how tired and exhausted we were, if we had a ton of fun doing the Trek then it will receive a higher rating.
