“Wilson Arch was named after Joe Wilson, a local Pioneer who had a cabin nearby in the dry valley.” And that is all we know about the history of the arch. This sign on the east side pull-out also explains how the arch was formed.
This quick little stop along the side of the road just to see this impressive arch is worth it. It is literally right off the road and provided us with a nice break from our trip to the area.
There are pull outs on either side of the highway but if you want to hike up to the arch you will need to pull over, safely, to the east parking pull out.
You can hike up the short yet somewhat steep path to the arch. There were a few families doing the same hike up so it was kind of busy but the overall round trip hike was about 200 yards in total and it was easy.
Personal Thoughts
This is a great stop along the highway if you are near Moab or Monticello Utah.
Cool! Thanks for sharing this. Never knew it existed.
Thanks Shelli! This was a cool place to visit.
