The apricot grove is located on the mountains to the east of the city of Farmington. It was very easy to get to and would be really nice to visit when the apricots are ripe.
I was scouting out mines on the mountainside in Davis County and found a small grove of wild apricot trees. There are probably five apricot trees with a few more scattered nearby. Apricot trees usually need lots of nitrogen, so I guess there must be a decent source here or else this grove wouldn’t exist. I’m not sure how apricots were planted here. What probably happened was a bird or animal picked up an apricot from someone’s yard and then brought it all the way up here to eat then the pit began to grow.
If you do visit here when the fruit is ripe, make sure to leave some for the rest of us! Just pick handfuls, not bag-fulls. Please be respectful and just enjoy the trees and fruit without damaging them. This is not on private property – this is on US Forest Service land.
Personal Thoughts
There are lots of areas on our mountains where you can find berries, wild apple trees, and now apricot trees.
