Date of Cleanup: April 18, 2020
Before the Covid19 shutdown, I met with Wendy who, as part of her job, oversees the volunteer cleanups at Antelope Island State Park, Utah. Originally, I wanted to create a big Trek Planner sponsored trash cleanup event at the park and met with Wendy to get it all set up. Well, Covid19 shut down the State Parks for some time, and then the governor opened some state parks only for residents who reside in the counties where those state parks lie. And we could only have 10 people or less. This meant we couldn’t invite lots of friends of The Trek Planner, and so we had to keep it strictly a family event. Luckily for us, there are lots of Johnsons in the Davis County area and so we got a group together and cleaned up Bridger Bay Beach!
We cleaned up the parking areas, and all the way out to the shore of the Great Salt Lake. We found lots of articles of clothing (anyone missing some socks??), plastic bottles, food wrappers, dead birds, and more. We got several large bags filled up of trash, and had a great time on the beach too! You got to have fun even if you are cleaning up trash! It was fun to have a niece and nephew there and we taught them a little bit about respecting nature and about cleaning up the places close to us!
Make sure and pick up at least one piece of trash wherever you explore!
