Any vehicle can make the Trek to these springs. You just pull off the side of the road and make the short walk to all of them. Please note that this road is closed in the winters so you can only visit in spring, summer, and fall.
Seeing all of the sulfur springs is really easy, but keep in mind you will need to cross the creek in order to get to four of them. The fifth spring and the Blue Pond are literally on the side of the road and you won’t need to cross any water.
I was driving through Diamond Fork Canyon with my window rolled down when I got a whiff of something terrible. I stopped the car and got out for a second because I quickly realized it was a sulfur-type smell. After investigating for a quick minute, I could see some white, green, and blue springs across the Diamond Fork Creek and decided to check them out!
The closer I got the worse they smelt, but sure enough, the sulfur smell was coming from these springs right here. The smell can be absolutely terrible, but I was really enjoying seeing these little hidden gems right off the side of the road. All in all, I found five springs and a small bright blue pond! I think there are a few more springs nearby, so maybe I’ll have to explore some more.
The springs have all sorts of minerals in them because you can see the travertine and mineral buildup as the sulfur spring water empties into the fresh water creek below. The sulfur water is not ice cold, but it’s not warm either. I would definitely not swim in these unless you want to smell like rotten eggs for a few days.
Seeing the blue mineral water in Blue Pond was really neat! I dare you to jump in!
Sulfur Springs 1, 2, and 3
The first three springs are all right next to each other and are from the same spring, but they just come out at different locations.
Sulfur Spring 4
Spring 4 is located just down the creek about 75 yards and is probably the best one. It has the most travertine.
Sulfur Spring 5 and Blue Pond
You will need to drive down a little ways to a pull out for Spring 5 and Blue Pond. The small blue pond is so cloudy you can’t tell how deep it is. You should swim in it and find out…
Personal Thoughts
This is a fun little adventure to add to your trip to Diamond Fork Hot Springs (Fifth Water Hot Springs). It was fun to see the water bubble up out of the ground and provide opportunities to try not to throw up from the smell.
What's so great about Sulfur Springs? Well, some people think they have healing properties and can cure baldness!
On a visit to the hot springs out in Corrine Utah, Hawkeye-TP and I met a guy who said that the stinking sulfur springs made his hair grow back on his head! He said bathing in sulfur made him feel more healthy and cured his baldness. He did have some hair on his head so I guess we have to believe him 😉
If you do decide to sit in these springs, just be careful.
