These petroglyphs are located near the tiny town of Moore, Utah, which is located south of Price.

I found these randomly as I was driving on Utah Route 10 then 803 to Goblin Valley instead of Highway 191.  I thought it would be fun to go a different way and I found some great places to visit including these petroglyphs near Moore and also the Rochester Rock Art Panel near Emery.

While I was driving to Goblin Valley one trip, I went through the town of Moore.  It’s a very tiny town which is nothing more than a few houses.  There are lots of broken barns and buildings near town that are neat to check out too just be please respectful of private property and observe from a distance.

I kept driving until I found a random pull-out and decided to see what was there.  Good thing I stopped because I immediately noticed information signs about petroglyphs in the area! I couldn’t have been luckier!  I got out and explored the area and quickly found most of the petroglyphs are right near the sign.  I think I counted four separate snake petroglyphs.  The huge snakes can be seen on the sides of the boulders, but the most interesting thing about them is that they are all facing the same direction.  And, they seem to be be pointing up the cliff side…I wonder what’s up there…

Whether the snakes truly represent snakes, or rivers, trails, or something else, we may never know.   Other petroglyphs can be found including lizards, anthropomorphs (human like figures), spirals, circles, and even an inscription from the CCC that was made on April 21, 1939!   You can see other modern graffiti.  Please be respectful and resist those urges to carve your name or deface the rocks. I know it’s a challenge and temptation for some out there, but it is possible, just observe without touching or defacing the rock art.
