While I was coming back from a trip in Heber I saw what I thought was a small travertine hot spring in Parley’s Canyon. I didn’t have enough time to stop last time but a few days later I came back to explore it. These springs are random but that’s what I love about The Trek Planner! I get to share these random and great places with you!
The springs are kind of a pain to get to. First, you have to park on the side of the highway. And second, you have to cross to the other side of the creek below in order to see the springs up close. You can see them from the side of the highway just fine but it will take a little bit of energy to actually touch the springs.
You will see a large culvert once you come down to the creek. I found a nice path just to the north of the culvert and was able to cross over just fine. Next, there isn’t really a trail to the springs so I just bushwhacked a little bit until I got there. The entire hike is very short but there are lots of thorn bushes and perhaps some poison ivy or poison oak. After hiking to the springs I noticed some small red rashes on my arms and legs so pay more attention than what I did!
Once you are at the springs there is no where to really sit or relax – it’s steep! The entire spring comes somewhere from above (it’s private property above the springs) and then cascades down the travertine and other mineral rock until it ends in the creek. You can see the pretty minerals in reds, oranges, and even greens on the hillside where the water cascades. The water is crystal clear and a cool temperature.
Personal Thoughts
This was a fun and random adventure. Usually I just fly down Parley's Canyon in my car but I'm glad I looked up for that one second to see these springs.
