Matrimony Spring has been a source of water for a very long time now. I’m not sure about the history or discovery of the spring but I have personally known about this water source for many years now. Please remember that you drink the water at your own risk. That being said, I have seen many cars lined up on the side of the road with people filling up their 10 gallon buckets at this spring and I have filled up my own water bottles here. The water that comes out is clear and cool and filled up my 32 oz bottle in less than 10 seconds.
My brother using a Mt Dew can to get a drink of the Matrimony Spring water. You can see part of a bucket someone placed there to funnel the water better.
The spring flows straight from the red rock and a culvert takes the water under the highway into the Colorado River.
I think the water tastes great and it is a nice and convenient place to get free water that is located very close to Moab. The parking lot can hold about quite a few cars depending on size. It tends to be more popular on the weekends.
Personal Thoughts
If we plan a trip to visit Arches National Park or the Moab area we also stop here to fill up our water. There is great controversy surrounding the spring as the city/county are concerned about public safety and their own liability as they cannot always guarantee the purity of the spring.
Cool! I didn’t know this place existed!! I’ll have to drink from it next time I’m there. Hopefully I don’t get diarrhea!
I’ve had the water from this spring for several years now and I have yet to get diarrhea! That doesn’t mean it couldn’t/won’t happen but I have yet to get sick!
[…] Matrimony Springs – I had hoped to stop here but we missed this natural spring. […]
they had closed down the spring in 2009 becassue of contamination. didnt know it was reopened
It’s still open. I was there about 5 months ago and got my bottle filled up!
