You won’t be blown away by these petroglyphs, but they are kind of neat to see if you’re nearby. Check out the Moab Maiden petroglyph in the area too!
I found these by accident as I was hiking around for a small spring. I found the spring and then discovered some petroglyphs near it. The spring is pretty small, more like a seep, but the petroglyphs are pretty neat! There are better and more easily accessible petroglyphs closer to the road along Kane Creek, but these are a little different.
The hike to the petroglyphs isn’t difficult and isn’t long. You will hike a little ways on the bike trail, Jackson’s Trail. I can’t say much about the biking portion of the trail, but I saw lots of people on it on this particular day enjoying themselves. You need to cross over the Kane Springs Creek on the wooden bridge.
Sooner or later you will leave the Jackson’s Trail and follow an unnamed trail to the petroglyphs. Just follow the GPS coordinates that I give you above.
The petroglyphs are spread out on the rock face. You can see a big horn sheep, coyote (or some animal), and some anthropomorphs (human-like figures). There are also long carved lines that resemble a staff from sheet music. The petroglyphs could be 700-1000+ years old!
Please be respectful and do not carve your own name or deface the existing petroglyphs. Don’t touch them. Just enjoy and take pictures 🙂
