To get to this small granary, you will need to hike along the popular Jackson’s Trail bike trail. This trail is also open to hikers of course.
You will follow Jackson’s Trail right from the beginning for a little ways. Cross over the wooden bridge that spans Kane Creek and continue on. If you are in Insider Member, just download the map, or follow the GPS coordinates to the granary from here. It isn’t a difficult hike, but the granary can be hard to see until you’re near it. It’s really neat to see considering there aren’t many granaries in the immediate Moab area.
The granary is ancient and deserves our respect. Please do not place or take any rocks from it. Do not try to get inside the alcove. Just admire the granary and do not touch it. It is probably anywhere from 500-1,000+ years old and has lasted up to this moment.
This was really neat to see and I recommend you see this granary, the Jackson’s Trail petroglyphs, and the Moab Maiden all in one visit if you can.
Personal Thoughts
This was a fun little surprise during my trip. I was trying to find the Moab Maiden petroglyph and was scouting in the wrong area. When I came up close to the cliffside, I saw something that resembled a granary. Upon closer inspection, I realized it was a granary, or some kind of structure. (We actually don't know if this was used to store food or what.)
