This overlook is on the way to Balcony House so if you are doing the Balcony House tour make sure to stop here for a quick look.
The actual Hemenway House cliff dwellings are located just under 1/2 mile across the canyon so you can’t really see it unless you bring binoculars or a telephoto lens.
The Hemenway House is named in honor of Mary Hemenway. Mary was in New York City and “financially supported the first archaeological research in the southwest” in the late 1800s.
While I visited, a ranger was on site to answer questions and I asked him if there was a trail to get over there. He replied that only a few people in Mesa Verde National Monument Park Service management can go there. Apparently, it’s a highly restricted area. Makes me wonder if it hasn’t been excavated yet or what.
