I was checking out the Parrish Creek Pictographs and had a few extra hours to explore around the area. I was hoping to find some more rock art but stumbled upon this short mine instead! It was a complete surprise and I was half expecting to see animals coming out of it, but it was empty.
The trail departs from the Parrish Creek Trailhead. It’s a pretty simple “trail” as you just bushwhack straight up the mountain to the mine. Make sure you wear some shoes that you don’t mind getting a whole bunch of weeds in them – my shoes were covered in thorns and thistle seeds!
The mine is impossible to see unless you’re right on top of it. It’s neatly hidden in a little small grotto surrounded by scrub oak.
The mine only goes in about 10 feet and there are signs of rats living inside of it. I believe this is a mining prospect because there are tailings right outside the mine and you can see evidence of some drilling or hammering on the rock walls.
Personal Thoughts
This was a neat surprise. It's not worth hiking straight up here but if you're in the area and want to see some Centerville mining history then maybe this is for you.
