Hiking to Funnel Arch was a really fun short adventure! Come visit this off-the-beaten-path arch and see why it is so amazing!
This hike really isn’t difficult but there is one spot that would make me not bring smaller children. You will need to climb up a short vertical section of sandstone wall but there are plenty of handholds and footholds for you to make it up the 10 ft section.
The trail winds around a short hill at the beginning and if you look closely you will see a very distinct big horn sheep petroglyph on the wall right when you make it to the top of the hill. There are some other glyphs if you follow the rock wall down a ways too but they look recent.
From here the trail points you towards the part where you will need to climb a little ways. It is very steep and could be very awkward for someone who doesn’t have any rock scrambling/climbing skills. I found some good footholds and handholds to use which made the climb easier. If you are hiking with others, you may need to help them up depending on their ability. Going up seemed to be a little more tricky than going down for me.
Climb on top of this section and then take a right. Follow the trail and it will lead you to another narrow area but you won’t need to climb anything like what you just did.
After this part, you will hike on top of another short hill and you will see Funnel Arch in the background. It really is an amazing arch and I was happy to see it wasn’t crowded. I literally only saw three people while I was hiking here.
The arch reminds me a little bit of Corona Arch on the other side of the Colorado River.
There are some other very interesting rock formations here and another small arch near the cliff edge. If you go south 100 yards to the cliff edge you may see some climbing bolts too that someone drilled in the rock. It was about a 200+ ft drop so be careful!
Personal Thoughts
Hiking to Funnel Arch was really fun! I loved how it provided a unique experience with a little rock climbing, petroglpyhs, and an arch! What a great adventure!
