Be a responsible explorer

While using the internet at a local cafe in Dubois, I asked the cashier about the “mine” inside of town. “Oh, you mean Butch Cassidy’s hideout?” She replied. This made me even more interested and I knew I had to check it out. I asked her for more information but she just remembered always being told this was one of his hideouts.

Some of the locals apparently think this was one of the many hideouts of Butch Cassidy. He lived in the area in the early 1890s and spent time all over the Wind River area. I couldn’t find any evidence to support the theory that this was used by Butch Cassidy, but it’s still a cool local legend!

This mine, or whatever it was, is very easy to see. You just park, climb the stairs, and that’s it. The door is locked, but if you have a flashlight you can peer inside. The inside is just a small carved out room that is now used as storage.
