Cave Ruin is a small ruin that’s in a cave.  Easy enough, right?  It really is an easy and quick adventure that won’t take you more than 10 minutes.  This isn’t a “must-see” adventure, but if you are in the area and want something easy to do while still seeing an ancient ruin up-close, then this might be for you.

Always remember to never touch the ruins or lean against them.  Don’t take any artifacts or relics from these sites.

I simply drove my car to a nice parking spot and walked straight to the ruin.  The ruin is located inside a shallow cave and it’s clear that this ruin was much larger in its original state.  It’s been destroyed or has broken to the ground – it’s not clear.  Probably both.  This one is located right next to a road and the city of Bluff, so it has been unfortunately heavily vandalized.

The ruin was most likely created by the Ancestral Pueblo Indians about 700-1000+ years ago.  It was fun to admire the craftsmanship and masonry done on this ruin.

There is another cave nearby that had a blackened roof from ancient fires just like at Cave Ruin.  There doesn’t appear to have been a ruin built in this one.

Personal Thoughts

Personal Thoughts

This isn't exactly the most amazing ruin out there. Instead, the ruin is a nice reminder that these ancient peoples found places that already offered shelter from the elements and built structures in them. This is just another example of how many ruins and structures there are in this area!
