The road to this mine is pretty rocky, but I somehow managed to come close to it using my Impala.
This mine was fun to explore even though it is very small. I don’t know the name of this mine, but since I found some colorful red and yellow rocks near it, I am calling this one the Candy Cane Mine.
There seems to be two entrances connected to this mine, but they are both gated or caved in. The shaft is on top of the tailings and has a structure that was probably where the hoist was located. The shaft has been gated over, but you can still shine your flashlight in. I couldn’t really tell how deep it went, but judging by the tailings this was probably a pretty big mine. The structure looks like someone like me made it; you know, with zero construction experience.
The closed adit is located near the shaft and it has a really cool door still attached. The entrance has been caved in.
To the east about 100 ft is another entrance, probably to a different mine, but I am adding this one to the Candy Cane Mine for fun. A good amount of water was flowing out of the mine and it was also gated.
Nearby is an ore hopper. Ore would be dumped in the top and filtered into different sizes and then put into ore carts or containers to be moved to processing.
There are many other mines in the area. Some are still actively worked so please be respectful of the signs and fences.
Personal Thoughts
This was a fun mine to check out. Even though it is closed, there are several neat things to see.
